Director of Property Accounting

Our client is a leading provider of high-quality student housing communities. As they continue to grow, they are looking for a Director of Property Accounting to lead the accounting and financial reporting functions for property accounting. This role will oversee month-end close processes, financial variance analysis, and accounting system implementations to enhance efficiency and accuracy. The Director will collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting standards while driving improvements in financial reporting and controls.

What YOU get to DO at this growing company:

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of Accounting Managers, Staff Accountants, and Property Accountants.
  • Oversee month-end close processes, including variance analysis, income statement reviews, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Partner with Financial Planning & Analysis teams to support forecasting and executive reporting.
  • Implement and enhance property accounting software and tools to optimize reporting capabilities.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, policies, and compliance standards for financial reporting.
  • Lead audit preparation, including internal and external audit requests and process walkthroughs.
  • Develop and maintain departmental accounting policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency.

What you NEED to SUCCEED in this challenging role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in public accounting or property accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting best practices.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
  • 2+ years of management experience leading accounting teams.
  • Experience in real estate accounting or property financial management.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems.
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work cross-functionally.
