Property Accounting Manager

Our client is a leading provider of high-quality student housing communities. As they continue to grow, they are looking for a Property Accounting Manager to oversee a team of property accountants and ensure the accurate financial reporting of assigned portfolios. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with internal accounting standards, control processes, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
What YOU get to DO at this growing company:
- Lead and mentor a team that includes Staff Accountants, Property Accountants, Senior Property Accountants, and Fixed Asset Accountants.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures, while recommending process improvements.
- Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and other critical financial reports.
- Manage and optimize portfolio reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in reporting.
- Supervise the month-end close process, including reviewing financial statements, consolidated portfolio reconciliations, and balance sheet reports.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including Financial Operations, Corporate Accounting, and FP&A, to address financial inquiries and requests.
- Lead and support special projects and process improvement initiatives to enhance financial efficiencies.
- Coordinate audit requests and provide technical accounting guidance to the leadership team.
What you NEED to SUCCEED in this challenging role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, including public accounting or property accounting; 2+ years of management experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, fixed asset accounting, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
- Advanced skills in Excel and MS Office Suite; experience with accounting software is highly preferred.
- Ability to analyze complex financial data, provide strategic recommendations, and lead teams effectively.
- Strong ability to think strategically, identify issues proactively, and develop efficient solutions.
- CPA certification preferred.
