Staff Software Engineer

Our client is seeking a Full Stack Developer to support the growth of a cutting-edge platform in the utilities technology sector. This role involves both the maintenance of existing systems and the development of new applications designed for municipal and utility clients. The ideal candidate will bring a balance of technical expertise, curiosity, and the ability to collaborate with both internal teams and external clients.
This is a hybrid position based in Central Texas (preferably North Austin), with occasional on-site visits (2–3 times per month) and future client-facing responsibilities. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate.

Develop and maintain full-stack applications supporting utilities and municipal operations.

Collaborate with engineering, product, and QA teams to deliver new platform modules and features.

Perform custom data ingestion and transformation from varied sources (CSV, text files, etc.).

Create and optimize database models and queries (PostgreSQL, MongoDB).

Build and enhance web applications using React, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and Node.js.

Work with Git/GitHub for version control and CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment.

Support offline/PWA and local-first functionalities with database sync capabilities.

Apply AI tools where appropriate to improve functionality and productivity.

Assist in future product implementations, including on-site client training and system demos.
What you NEED to SUCCEED in this challenging role:

3+ years of full-stack development experience (exceptions may be made for exceptional candidates).

Strong knowledge of JavaScript/Node.js and either Python or similar scripting languages.

Experience working with PostgreSQL and MongoDB; proficiency with SQL and MQL.

Proven ability to handle messy, unstructured data and perform effective transformations.

Skilled in modern front-end frameworks (React, Next.js) and Tailwind CSS.

Experience using Git, GitHub, and CI/CD practices.

Bonus: Experience with PWA or offline-first applications and tools.

Strong communication skills and willingness to develop into a client-facing role.

GitHub or open-source contributions are highly valued.
